The resurrection of the newly imagined Hayward Field at the University of Oregon has allowed for all that history and all those stories—a lot of them, anyway—to occupy one spot.
That spot is Hayward Hall.

Chasing Gold at Hayward: The UO’s Olympic Trials Legacy
To mark the 100th year since the first Olympic tryouts at Hayward Field, the UO Libraries is hosting an exhibition detailing the significant connection between the University of Oregon and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field.
Curated by newly named Athletics Archivist, Lauren Goss, the exhibit includes a wide variety of artifacts and archival materials from the UO Libraries Special Collections and University Archives that illustrate the evolution of Hayward Field from its modest origins to a world-class facility.
“Chasing Gold at Hayward: The UO’s Olympic Trials Legacy” can be viewed in person at Knight Library any time during normal hours of operation. During the summer, the library is generally open 9 a.m.—7 p.m., Monday-Friday, excluding holidays.
Hayward welcomes UO First Olympic Gold Medalist
The newly remodeled Hayward Field includes a nine-floor tower with individual floors honoring the Ducks' eight Olympic gold medalists, of which Otis Davis became the first by winning the 400 meters in Rome on Sept. 6, 1960.
Celebrating Global Excellence
In a show of its international impact, the flags of 156 countries wave at Hayward Field which signifies the number of nations represented in senior-level competition at Historic Hayward Field, before construction began on the reimagined stadium in 2018.
