Flags from 156 countries celebrate
global excellence of Hayward Field

June 12, 2020

Hayward Field has earned global acclaim in the sport of track and field by attracting the world’s best athletes and events during its long and storied history. In a show of its international impact, the flags of 156 countries will wave at Hayward Field which signifies the number of nations represented in senior-level competition at the world-renowned facility.

Beginning with the flag of the United States of America and followed by the other 155 countries, the display will extend along Agate Street to 18th Avenue to the pathway between the square track warm-up area and Jane Sanders Stadium. The flags display is among the many finishing touches coming over the summer months to one of the world’s finest track and field facilities.

In 2022, Eugene will host the World Athletics Championships—July 15-24, 2022—and Hayward Field will become the first stadium in the United States to ever host the meet.
