  • Last steel bent support has been installed. Large cranes to be removed from infield.

Week of July 8, 2019

Crews will periodically close a two-block section of Agate Street to maximize safety during installation of steel work along the east side of Hayward Field. The periodic closures are slated to happen for about an hour at a time, two to three times a day, two days a week, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. through August. During the closures, traffic will be routed along 15th Avenue, Moss Street and 17th Avenue. Traffic flaggers will assist with emergency traffic from the fire station on Agate Street.

Week of June 24, 2019

  • Steel erection activities going well. Six beams and associated interconnecting steel supports erected on the west side and two beams on the east side. These beams support the upper-level seating. Precast concrete goes on top of this steel and the actual seats attach to the precast.
  • The first large bent was erected. The bents support the roof. Once a few of the bents are erected the glue-laminated timbers will be installed on them to create the full hybrid support system for the roof.
  • Square track base paving has been completed and finish crews have started their work in the NE corner that was redone. They expect to start the paving for the entire track today and be complete in late June.
  • Paving of some of the west section of 15th Avenue has begun. This is the base layer for the modular pavers that begin to go down next week.

Hayward Field design updates will help access, fan experience

The University of Oregon has released updates to the reconstruction of Hayward Field that includes minor changes to the overall design.


Hayward Field construction slated to start June 19

Preparations for the reconstruction of Hayward Field will be ramping up in the coming days, with crews fencing off the site starting the week of June 19.

A small team will begin the inventory process, site preparation and some preliminary salvage work this week, but activity that will affect parking, as well as pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area, will commence next week.
